Many travelers were hopeful of experiencing a white New Year with snowfall, which is historically one of the biggest draws for tourism in Shimla and other Himachal destinations. The anticipation of snow often boosts bookings and weekend trips during the holiday season.

Shimla witnessed a significant increase in traffic, especially on major access routes such as the Shoghi side (from Chandigarh direction). On New Year’s eve, authorities reported over 12,000–15,000 vehicles entering and exiting the town, up from the usual daily traffic of 8,000–10,000 vehicles.
